Impost: An upright that stretches from the floor and supports an arch. Occasionally built into the walls.

Keystone/keyed: Traditionally the centrepiece stone in an arch. Now often a decorative feature added to the surface, often moulded and occasionally placed centrally on a horizontal lintel.

Kneeler: A feature added to the bottom end of the slope of a gable end roof. This projects out over the wall below and is typically moulded.

Margins: The collective name for the surrounding features that frame a door or window (the cill, jambs and lintel).

Modillion: A small, typically scrolled, bracket spaced evenly along the bottom face of a cornice.

Moulding: This simply refers to the shaped profile of a feature added to a wall or architectural feature.

Pediment: A triangular, often decorated, section added to the top of walls and above doorways or windows.

Pilaster: The rectangular column attached to a wall.
